Well I heard from my friend this could happen I am just curious
If on for a week or more, yes. But the same could be said for any machine..Can a Wii overheat and die because of Wi ...
its always on if you leave it plugged in though
No, never.......ever.Your friend is wrong
My wiiconnect has been on for months and I have not had any problems.
Yes, it can overheat if Wiiconnect24 is left on for too long. If doesnt happen to every system but it causes a lot of heat and there has been issues because of it. Set WiiConnect24 to standby when your Wii is off to be safe. You can notice the Wii is when it is left on for too long

Now WiiConnect makes it surface faster in some cases but no matter what a faulty Wii is going to overheat from Wiiconnect being on or just from playing games. The whole point is to find out NOW if your Wii is defective. Chances are it's not, as with the many others that are not. If it is you find out sooner rather then later.
Here is a general rule of thumb for the Wii overheating issue. If your Wii is going to overheat and cause problems, it will do so while in the range of the warranty. If your Wii is not going to overheat and cause problems, then after the term of the warranty you should rest assured that your Wii will continue to operate properly.
My Wii never overheated from WiiConnect being on for months.

My Wii has been connected to WiiConnect24 (not on Standby, but still connected) for a day over a year (I got my Wii one day and one year ago :P). I don't think there's been a case of the Wii overheating because of WC24, if so, it's not very common at all.
I've had Wii connect on sinse December 25th. so far no problems.;)
I've had WiiConnect24 on for a month and a half on standby, and I have no overheating issues
Defective heatsink was the issue and that was in a few launch units. All wiiconnect 24 did was cause it to be revealed under warranty. The heatsink isn't the fan. The fan isn't what actually protects the system it's the heatsink. Heatsinks bleed heat from the circuit boards. Faulty heatsink means the system overheats just from being used.
